The Day I Got Hooked on Science Fiction

Ender’s Game now has its own movie!

Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card

I always loved fantasy and science fiction, but the notion of reading in English full length books wasn’t that compelling. I did it at times – with some D&D related fantasy books.

As I “grew” and went to college, I had a roommate that came from the US. He knew I liked science fiction, so he gave me this book called “Ender’s Game”. I asked him what was it about, and he simply said “it is about a small kid that saves the world”.

Once I finished reading Ender’s Game, there was no turn back – I just had to read anything that Orson Scott Card wrote – and I did up until a few years ago. Loved his books.

When Orson Scott Card came to Israel for the science fiction and fantasy convention a few years ago, I went with a friend to stand in line for two hours waiting for a book I brought with me to be signed. It was magical. Orson Scott Card gave me his full attention for a full minute –as if it wasn’t a hot day with too many people to smile at and chitchat with for a signature. He is not only a great writer but also a great person.

It is easy to understand then why I am waiting with fascination for the movie that was just announced:

And if it is books you are preferring, then here’s the books of Orson Scott Card that I have enjoyed the most:

The only problem now? The movie is half a year for now, which is way too long to wait.
