SPDY was a networking protocol developed by Google as a predecessor to HTTP/2. It aimed to reduce web page load times through multiplexing, header compression, and server push.

SPDY and WebRTC

SPDY is primarily of historical interest in the WebRTC context. During WebRTC’s early development, SPDY was being used as the basis for the QUIC protocol, which has since become relevant for WebTransport and MoQ.

SPDY has been deprecated and replaced by HTTP/2 (which incorporated most of SPDY’s innovations). For WebRTC signaling, WebSocket and HTTP remain the standard transport options.
