Looking to improve your skillset with WebRTC? There’s a place for that now.
I get asked time and again – how should people gain knowledge of WebRTC. As a new technology, there’s not a lot to go around out there. There’s the WebRTC Book, but apart from that, there’s no systematic way of doing that.
Well… at least there wasn’t. WebRTC School has just been announced and launched, and now. Graham Francis, founder of WebRTC School has taken the time to answer a few of my questions.
What is WebRTC School all about?
Quite simply, it will be the leading training and certification location on the web for WebRTC. Students will be able to both study and get qualified on this exciting specification.
Â
How did you come up with the idea?
We knew that WebRTC was going to ‘make waves’ last year and thought about building a section on it into our SSCA® SIP program, then after a conversation with Alan Johnson and Dan Burnett we decided that a full blown offering was the right way to go.
Â
Why should people enroll to WebRTC School?
Enrollment gives people access to eLearning material that will evolve as the WebRTC standards evolve. That way, people can learn all about the technologies and keep coming back to refresh as things move forward. Also, they will be able to take a certification test to prove that they have a great level of expertise in the subject.
Â
What courses do you have available?
Certified WebRTC Integrator that is packaged with access to the CWI™ certification test and will be available on the 24th of June. The Certified WebRTC Developer that is packaged with access to the CWD™ certification test will be made available shortly after that.
Â
How did you structure the course materials? Can you give a sneak peak or some highlights for my readers?
The course is broken into modules, for example: the Integrator course has 10 modules that include Media Flow, Security, Signaling, NAT traversal and much more. Students can work through the program in a recommended order or simply look at the module they are interested in. Modules can be revisited as many times as people like.
Each module is fully animated with Audio, Videos and Quizzes to help people assess their own progress.
Â
WebRTC is a technology “under construction”. How do you go about building updated training courses for it?
We have a lot of experience in developing programs for things that evolve quickly with our SSCA® SIP program being the best example. This experience enables us to construct a training framework that enables new content to be added, old content to be removed whilst still keeping a great learning experience in place.
Â
You started off with The SIP School, which is still running strong. I wonder – how do you view the difference in the effort you placed in SIP versus WebRTC when it comes to training material?
The SIP program has been running and evolving for nearly 6 years now and has been the sole effort of The SIP School team. To get the WebRTC School up and running quickly we decided that working with two people who have such a big involvement in the development of WebRTC, Alan B Johnson and Dan Burnett that we could get a great product launched just as people are starting to look for official and effective training.
Â
What’s next for WebRTC School?
We’d like to think that we can concentrate on our existing products and keep them evolving as need be, this means that beyond the WebRTC School launch no new products are in the pipeline – that is, unless another amazing new protocol appears and of course we’d have to consider it.
