This Week’s Crop of WebRTC Posts

Another week, another set of interesting WebRTC related posts.

This week we’ve had our share of WebRTC posts. These are the ones I found most interesting.

  • Dave Michels thinks H.265 may never happen. And the reason? VP8 looks like a candidate for a H.264 successor
  • Erik Lagerway has an opposite opinion, where H.264 becomes the mandatory codec for WebRTC
  • If you ask me, both come with some very good reasons, which goes to show that the video codec issue in WebRTC isn’t going to be a simple one
  • Sean Jackson has an overview on WebRTC and the hype around it, while I don’t necessarily agree with his conclusions, it makes for a good read
  • I’ve written my own post about UC and WebRTC, but in the end, Fred Knight beat me to it with a great post about the path to UC via WebRTC. I think UC vendors are starting to shift from denial and anger to bargaining in their stages of grief about this new technology
  • The weekly contribution that Chris Koehncke makes to my lists here is about UC and its vulenrability due to WebRTC. In his view, it is about the ease of integration of WebRTC into verticals – I agree
  • Sam Dutton of Google has a comprehensive slidedeck about WebRTC. It is filled with inks to demos and code samples
  • Last but not least, is an initiative by Bistri about the actual use of WebRTC out there. It is a new website called WebRTCstats, where you can find for now Bistri’s own usage statistics. If you want to share your own – just go to the site’s contact page

Have a great weekend!
