Need a messaging framework? Should you buy one or build your own? There's no easy answer, but I'd lean towards buying a platform any day of the week.

If you are planning on offering an API to your customers, you should seriously think of adding an SDK to that offering - without it, using your API is going to be harder. In this case, you can say I don't share Streaming.io's view at all.
Open source licenses are tough. When you decide to use an open source module, you need to first ask yourself if its license is suitable for your business. In many cases, you'd rather be safe than sorry here.
